Is Your Employee Really an Independent Contractor? What you need to know in the eyes of the IRS

If your business uses independent contractors as part of its workforce, depending on the circumstances, the IRS might reclassify these workers as employees. Such a reclassification would expose your business to employment taxes and penalties. In addition, your business might be responsible for retroactive fringe benefits for any reclassified workers.

To avoid this possibility, we recommend that employers review every contract the business holds with an independent contractor together with their attorney or CPA.

Charities are selected based upon recommendation from employees through their personal affiliation.

 

Zinner Celebrates Purple Day 2017

A longtime supporter of the Epilepsy Association, the firm held a two-week purple-themed campaign in conjunction with the Association to raise funds and awareness for those affected by Epilepsy and seizure disorders. Purple is the color adopted nationwide to signify support for those affected by epilepsy and seizure disorders. 

In addition to wearing purple clothes and enjoying purple treats, staff welcomed the Association’s Assistant Director of Development Alison Foutz who presented an overview of the organization and the work they do in our community. Intern Alec Palmer (’18, Baldwin Wallace University) was the winner in the firm’s prize-packed purple basket raffle.

The Epilepsy Association will also hold thier annual Rockin' the Keys for a Cause event, a dueling piano themed night out complete with tasty foods, quenching drinks, and a plethora of silent auction items. The event  will be held at Vosh Lakewood on Wednesday, May 3, from 6PM to 9PM. Tickets are $85 per person and can be purchased here.
