Many of my clients have a child heading off to college in a month or two and have asked about 529 Plan withdrawals to help cover upcoming education expenses.
Contrary to what some may think, not all withdrawals are tax-free. Therefore, it is important to understand the basics of 529 plan distributions to avoid paying unwanted federal income tax.

It goes without saying that the death of one's spouse is typically an extremely difficult emotional trauma. When one loses a spouse, the last thing on the surviving spouse’s mind is the tax issues to be addressed.
Nonetheless, the passing of one’s spouse will likely lead to certain federal income tax tasks and responsibilities. Among other things, you'll need to learn the proper procedure for filing and signing your spouse's final income tax return, and you'll need to review the applicable filing status rules.
Sue Krantz Completes Term as President of Nonprofit CPAs
Partner Sue Krantz finished her term as President of Nonprofit CPAs, a nationwide affiliation of independently owned accounting firms committed to delivering exceptional financial and consulting services to nonprofit organizations. There was no mistaking the Zinner’s Zest team as they donned their lime green team tee’s and stepped off to raise funds and awareness for The Gathering Place. The Z team along with over 4,000 participants, gathered for the annual Race for the Place 5k walk and run.
