Lake County Sale and Use Tax to Increase

by | 28 May | Ohio Department of Taxation

The sales and use tax rate for Lake County (43) will increase from 7 percent to 7.25 percent effective July 1, 2025.

Last year, LakeTran, the county’s regional public transportation system, announced that it would pause the agency’s quarter-of-a-percent sales tax, which was approved by Lake County voters in 2019.

According to a press release issued by the agency, LakeTran had a surplus of $22 million of COVID-19 relief money, and its Board of Directors decided to give the money back to the residents.

With the surplus winding down, LakeTran asked for the tax pause to be lifted.

As such, it will be reinstated on July 1.

LakeTran serves over 680,000 riders each year, offering 10 local routes, door-to-door Dial-a-Ride, Rides on Demand and three commuter Park-n-Ride routes with service between Lake County and downtown Cleveland.
