The morning of June 3 started out cool and grey with a threat of rain – perfect weather for the annual Race for the Place!

The threatening weather didn’t dampen the spirits of any of the 3,500+ participants, though, who raised $375,000 to benefit The Gathering Place. Included in that number were around two dozen representatives from Zinner & Co. (team Zinner’s Zest), some of whom walked and others of whom ran the 5K course through the streets of Beachwood, Ohio.

The Gathering Place was founded in 2000 as a nonprofit cancer support center in the greater Cleveland community. By focusing on the social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of cancer patients and their families, this organization has improved the lives of well over 17,500 individuals since its inception. Education centers, support groups and exercise and nutrition classes are all offered free of charge. During times of a family’s despair and fear, The Gathering Place has been a sanctuary providing those families with peace and hope.

We at Zinner & Co. have been proud sponsors of this event for many years. I have been participating for about half a dozen years and, while walking is a regular activity for me, taking part in this walk always has special meaning. Looking back at my own experiences and the way my life has been affected by family members’ encounters with cancer, I truly appreciate all that The Gathering Place offers those who are affected.

So, to all who helped support our efforts in helping The Gathering Place, thank you!  And, to all who are just now learning about this fine organization, we look forward to your support next year.
