My love for four-legged friends has given me the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at this year’s main fundraising event for the Geauga Humane Society, Woofstock! I have been interested in getting involved with this organization for a while, and recently sat on the planning committee for Woofstock. I was truly inspired and blown away at how much work and dedication goes into an event like this, and I must say it really pays off.

Woofstock 2010 took place on September 19th at the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland. With over 1,700 attendees and over $80,000 raised, it was a wonder to behold. As a first-time attendee, I was overwhelmed at not only the breathtaking surroundings, but the overall magnitude of the event. With contests, prizes, games, countless vendors, and adoption booths, every which way you looked, you were in doggie heaven! Or at least Brody (my dog) was. I don’t think Brody or I have ever been around that many dogs at once, and you could tell, he was on sensory overload! “Look at that boxer!”, “Smell those treats!”, and “I want to play with that ball!” were all obvious expressions on my pup’s face that morning.

While the highlight for me was watching Brody attempt his first agility course, I’m fairly certain it may have been his last. Even the promise of a succulent treat could not persuade him through the tunnel or across the balance beam. But, you can’t blame a dog for trying.

It was beyond fun to be around that many people who all share the same passion and excitement for animals as I do. The Geauga Humane Society and all that they to better the lives of so many

animals is extremely close to my heart, and I want to give special thanks to Mary Ann Mezacapa and David DiCillo for joining my fundraising team, “Zinner’s Winners” and helping me raise $175 for the event. I look forward to attending Woofstock for many years to come and formy continued involvement with Rescue Village.
