Jailbird Helps Muscular Dystrophy Association

Gabe 2Albert Schweitzer said “Wherever a man turns, he can find someone who needs him.” So when the Muscular Dystrophy Association called to ask if I would be “locked up” to raise funds for their programs, I said, “Bring on the handcuffs!”

Over the past month, requests were sent to clients, friends and the staff of Zinner & Co to help bail me out of jail. I had not quite reached my goal when the security police officer came on February 22, 2012 and took me to the Independence fire station in handcuffs. At the fire station, I meet with the enthusiastic staff of MDA. They explained how the donations helped people living with muscular disease in many ways:

Gabe 3· Clinics – expert specialized medical care

· Research – cutting-edge investigation into treatments and cures

· Support – help obtaining equipment and coping with challenges

· Camp– a barrier-free week of fun, friendship and laughter for kids

While at the fire station, a late rush of donations from the staff at Zinner & Co. not only helped me reach my goal, but made me the top 2012 jailbird fund raiser at $2,725. I think seeing me taken away from the office in handcuffs helped inspire the staff to help me with a quick release from jail.

I want to thank everyone who donated to this worthy cause. The experience was a lot of fun and knowing that we were helping others was rewarding.
