Due to a number of recent promotions and to accommodate our growing workload, the firm is searching for an outstanding professional to join our tax staff as a Tax Supervisor. 

The Tax Supervisor is responsible for preparing and reviewing domestic tax returns, many of which include complex tax structures. The successful candidate in this position will identify and recommend tax strategies that better position the client through his or her deep understanding of tax law and how it can affect client business. The Tax Supervisor will ensure compliance with all internal controls and accounting standards.

The Tax Supervisor position serves in a mentoring and training position for junior staff and offers an outstanding opportunity for leadership and career advancement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Technical

  • Prepares basic to more complex individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns
  • Performs review of less complicated personal, corporate, and partnership tax returns
  • Serves as a technical resource for tax staff and senior tax accountants
  • Identifies critical tax issues and risks to the client
  • Conducts basic and complex tax research
  • Collaborates with firm colleagues to prepare and plan tax projections for individual, corporate, and partnership tax clients
  • Reviews IRS notices and drafts responses

Managerial – Supervisory

  • Delegates work to tax staff and senior tax accountants
  • Supervises tax staff; defines expectations and performance indicators
  • Participates in firm wide and tax department administrative projects
  • Acts as key client contact person for smaller engagements
  • Fosters and exemplifies collaborative working relationships with all employment levels of the firm
  • Coaches, counsels and mentors direct reports
  • Assists with training of other tax department or firm accounting personnel
  • Develops a network of industry peers and business contacts, meets with prospective clients, and cultivates referral business

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in accounting (or related) from an accredited college or university
  • CPA license
  • Five to seven years’ experience in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in knowledge and depth of understanding with the complexities of tax issues
  • Proficiency with tax software programs and tax research products
  • Supervisory experience desired

  • Self-directed and self-motivated work ethic that contributes to the client service team by producing quality work with quick turnaround and attentive service
  • Comfortable working with regional not-for-profit organizations, supporting volunteerism and serving the community
  • Works with an entrepreneurial approach to client service while building positive working relationships with client personnel
  • Comfortable with preparing and presenting workshops, seminars and training sessions to both internal and external stakeholders
