For a couple hours last Friday several employees at Zinner & Co. got to experience this firsthand when we were able to participate in FETCH! – Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits. FETCH! was created by The Ohio CPA Foundation, and it provides a platform for CPAs to share their financial knowledge and expertise to teach 5th and 6th grade students basic financial literacy concepts like budgeting, savings and spending. Zinner & Co. has taken part in this program for several years.

This year we were at Brecksville Central School, and we had four great classes to work with. The kids were great participants, showing lots of enthusiasm and asking tons of great questions. FETCH! is basically a game in which teams work together to purchase items for their dog and save as much money as possible. The students are required to keep track of their savings account balance, make financial decisions, and also keep in mind unexpected expenses that may come up, such as having to get the dog its rabies vaccination. It was great to be able to help pass some of our accounting knowledge on to these kids and maybe even get some of them thinking about becoming a CPA!
